Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia)

A small tree or shrub usually found as a clump.

Crape myrtle is an great ornamental plant for residential yards and gardens. If you are not sure if you want either a shrub or small tree let this plant be your choice. In colder regions it dies back in winter, like a perennial plant. These trees have handsome bark, great foliage and many colorful summer flowers. Deciduous, they will lose their leaves in the fall. Many types of new Crape Myrtle varieties are now available which are hardy in the Northeast with relatively mild winters. You will find that by nature the rugged Crape Myrtles tolerate drought, will transplant easily, and require little care. Why didn't my wife ever allow me to plant one at our House?
